Franklin Pierce Takes Down Women's Soccer 4-2

Boxscore

Springfield, Mass. - Franklin Pierce scored three goals in the first-stanza en-route to a 4-2 Northeast-10 victory over the American International College Yellow Jackets Saturday afternoon at AIC Park.

Defensemen Cassie Ashwell (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and Meghan O'Herron (Springfield, Mass.) both scored goals in the losing effort for the Yellow Jackets.

The Ravens jumped on the board just under 15 minutes into the contest when Melissa Hagmire took a cross from the right side of the field from Jenna Giardina and placed it past the outstretched arms of AIC goalie Kara Potts (Westfield, Mass.)

Potts turned away 12 shots in net for the Yellow Jackets while Franklin Pierce starting goalie Brittany Ester (Toms River, N.J.) stopped three shots for the visitors.

Franklin Pierce struck again at the 23:30 point in the first-frame. Gabriela Demoner (Curitiba, Brazil) who scored twice in the contest dribbled through a few defenders inside of the box before ripping a shot to the back of the net, making the score 2-0.

The Ravens added on their final goal of the half at the 35 minute mark when Giardina took a cross from Mackenzie Bulych and headed it into the goal.

Franklin Pierce out-shot AIC 23-11 while holding a close 4-3 margin in corner kicks.

Under five minutes into the second-half Demoner earned her second goal of the contest beating the defense after receiving a through ball from Kelly Johnson, and chipping the ball past Potts.

The Yellow Jackets would not go down without a fight. Ashwell scored the teams' first goal when she smoked a shot from 20 yards out past the goalie with the clock showing 20 minutes to play.

AIC would make the game even more interesting 11 minutes later when O'Herron played ping-pong with the goal in front of the net, before finally shoving it through for the score.

Despite the second-half improvement AIC could not muster up another goal dropping their record to 7-10-0 overall and 2-9-0 in the Northeast-10. With the win Franklin Pierce moved to 10-1-4 overall and 8-1-4 in the Northeast-10.

Next up, AIC will travel to take on St. Anselm at 3:30pm on Wednesday October 17th.
