Women's Soccer Falls at Merrimack
North Andover, Mass. - The women's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision at Merrimack Tuesday in a Northeast-10 contest. Sophomore midfielder Morgan Mastronardi (Corunna, Ont.) scored in the fifth minute for the Yellow Jackets.
Mastronardi took a feed from senior midfielder Lindsey Wolfe (Westfield, Mass.) shot it past Merriamck keeper Shannon Rowan (Fair Haven, NJ) from just beyond the left side of the box 4:47 into the contest. The Warriors then took control of the match, scoring four unanswered goals.
Merrimack tied the match at 12:58 when Jackie Vickers (Norwell, Mass.) deflected a pass from Julie Anderson (Middletown, R.I.) into the net and took the lead for good 2:29 later when Hillary McGarr (Norwell, Mass.) put home a crossing pass from Lindsey deMont (Littleton, Mass.). Anderson and Gabrielle Gramprey (Brocton, Mass.) added one goal each in the second half for the 4-1 final.
Rowan made three saves in recording the win, while junior keeper Danielle Hodecker (West Springfield, Mass.) stopped 14 shots. The Warriors outshot AIC 27-6 in the match and held a 9-1 edge in corner kicks.
