Women's Soccer Drops Close 1-0 Battle with Bentley
Mass. - Junior forward Tara Petitto scored the game's only goal,
to give Bentley a 1-0 win over American International in
Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon
at the Bentley Soccer Complex. The Falcons, ranked fifth in New
England in the latest NSCAA/adidas Division II Coaches Poll,
improved their overall record to 7-2-1, and went to 4-1-1 in
conference play. The Yellow Jackets fell to 6-5 overall and 2-4 in
the NE-10.
In a game in which Bentley had plenty of scoring chances, only Petitto could break through in the 71st minute when she was set up by sophomore Cheryl Boyd and scored her fourth goal of the season to give the Falcons the lead. Bentley held a 20-12 advantage in shots in the match and its authority was especially pronounced in the second half, when the Falcons outshot AIC, 11-5.
Freshman Kara Smith kept a clean sheet, making six saves for her first career shutout, while her high school teammate, AIC junior Danielle Hodecker (West Springfield, Mass.) also stopped six shots in the other net.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action when they travel to take
on St. Michael's this Tuesday at 4:00 pm.
