Dolphins Down Women's Soccer 3-0

Boxscore

Springfield, Mass. - Joanne Germano (West Springfield, Mass.) recorded her fourth goal of the season, but it wasn't enough to lift American International College past the visiting Le Moyne Dolphins, as they fell 3-1 in a Northeast-10 showdown Wednesday afternoon.

In the loss, Yellow Jacket goalie Kara Potts (Westfield, Mass.) played extremely well, batting down 11 shots-on-goal. AIC was out shot by the Dolphins 20-6, but played well defensively.

Le Moyne took a 1-0 lead with under two minutes remaining on the clock in the first-period. Riane Fletcher took a feed from Caitlin O'Rourke and placed a shot to the back right-corner of the goal, pasted the outstretched Potts, for the goal.

Germano tied the score midway through the second-stanza, after placing a beautifully shot ball right over the head of Dolphin goalie Amanda Abbatiello. Lindsey Wolfe (Westfield, Mass.) and Courtney Roberts (Far Rockaway, NY) were credited with assists on the score. Abbatiello turned away one shot on the afternoon.

The Dolphins took the lead shortly after the Germano goal when Jacki Rossi booted a penalty kick by the helpless Potts. Rossi was awarded the free shot after the Yellow Jackets were called for a tripping penalty inside of their box.

Megan O'Shea would add one more score for Le Moyne at the 80:24 mark, sealing the first conference win of the season for the Dolphins. With the win, Le Moyne jumps to 4-0-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the Northeast-10. The loss drops AIC to 2-2-0 overall and 0-1-0 in Northeast-10 action.

The Jackets will head on the road to take on UMass-Lowell September 9th.
