Women's Tennis Downs Franklin Pierce 6-3

Rindge, N.H. - Junior Sara Strzempek (Chicopee, Mass.) was one of four Yellow Jackets to record two wins as the American International College women's tennis team posted a 6-3 victory at Franklin Pierce Friday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets improved to 2-6 on the season and in the Northeast-10, while the Ravens dropped to 0-14 overall and 0-11 in conference play. AIC was its top two doubles matches and top four singles matches for the first time this season.

Strzempek was a 6-2, 7-5 winner at second singles over freshman Lauren Smilovich (Meriden, Conn.) and teamed with junior Sarah Pfefferkorn (Ludlow, Mass.) for an 8-1 victory at first singles over sophomore Bianca LaPointe (Plainfield, Conn.) and Smilovich. Pfeffercorn also picked up a win at first singles, defeating sophomore Mariana Zahora (New Ringgolg, Pa.) 6-1, 6-0.

Senior Lindsay Wolfe (Westfield, Mass.) was a 6-4, 6-0 winner over sophomore Eryn Whyman (Corning, N.Y.) at third singles and paired with junior Tyler Rockefeller (Greenlawn, N.Y.) to register an 8-4 win at second doubles over Whyman and Zahora. Rockefeller also notched a win at fourth singles, beating LaPointe 8-6.

Junior Francesca Santoro (Medford, Mass.) and sophomore Kathleen Judge (Lowell, Mass.) were both double-winners for Franklin Pierce. Santoro posted a 9-7 victory at fifth singles over junior Kristina Temple (Exter, Maine) and Judge posted an 8-1 win at sixth singles over junior Kelly Mateus (Ludlow, Mass.). Judge and Santoro also combined for an 8-2 decision at third doubles over Mateus and Temple.

The Yellow Jackets return to action Saturday when they host Saint Michael's at 1 p.m.
