Nick Callini just completed his seventh season as head coach of the American International College baseball team in 2010. He was named the 15th head coach in the program’s history on October 20, 2003 after the untimely passing of Chuck Lelas, who was the Yellow Jackets’ skipper from 1999-2003.
Callini was made full-time in the fall of 2008 and added additional duties as the coordinator of the College’s Academic Resource Center, where he assists AIC students improve their academic standing. Those duties include arranging individual and group tutoring sessions and working with students to improve their study, test taking and time management skills.
Callini, who served as an assistant coach in 2003, earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Trinity College (Conn.) in 2002 with a minor in models and data. He was a member of two consecutive NCAA Regional Tournament teams and the Bantams won the NESCAC title his junior season. Also during his junior season, he was named the team’s Most Improved Player and received the John E. Kelly Gold Glove Award as the Bantam’s defensive MVP.
Callini currently resides in Westfield, Mass. with his wife, Kristen, and daughter, Hannah.
